SAILING - Rya Skandia Team GBR 2008
SURF - Russell Winter
Russell
Winter has achieved more on the international pro surf circuit than any
other British surfer. Brought up in Newquay, Cornwall, Russ – a.k.a
the ‘Bulldog’ (for his sheer determination) - reached the pinnacle of
professional surfing by qualifying for the notoriously difficult ASP,
WCT tour. He cemented his reputation with outstanding displays against
the world’s best, taking on and beating his heroes such as Mark
Occhilupo at J-Bay and Kelly Slater at Sunset. In 2002 Russ scored
his first ever WQS victory when he took the four-star Rip Curl Board
Masters at Fistral. Last year he posted some solid performances on
the WQS including reaching the quarters in the Maldives and 8th place
in both France and Hawaii. Today, Russ is the highest placed British
surfer on the WQS and one of the most respected European surfers on the
tour.

SURF - Lee Ryan
Background:
I was born in England, but grew up in South Africa, where I caught my
first wave and got hooked on the sport of surfing. Lived twenty minutes
from the beach so I was continually nagging my parents to take me to
the beach on weekends where I learnt to surf on an old beat up 7ft
pintail. Returned to England aged 15 and realised my dad wasn't joking
- England did have waves! Surfed since and my addiction to saltwater
has never been stronger.
